Vinay Mohan Kwatra – Ambassador to France

Vinay Mohan Kwatra, currently a joint secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, has been appointed as the next ambassador to France. 

A 1988-batch foreign service officer, Kwatra will succeed Mohan Kumar, who is retiring. 

Apart from having experience of dealing with the UN organisations such as International Labour Organization (ILO) and World Health Organization (WHO), he has served in Indian diplomatic missions in China and the US.

વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીનો શ્રીલંકા પ્રવાસનો આજે બીજો દિવસે છે. વડાપ્રધાન બૌધ્ધ ધર્મના સૌથી મોટા તહેવારના ઉજવણી સમારંભમાં ભાગ લઈ રહ્યા છે. શ્રીલંકાના કોલંબોમાં આજે આતંરાષ્ટ્રીય વેસાક દિવસના ઉત્વમાં ભાગ લઈ રહ્યા છે.

વડાપ્રધાન મોદી ભારતના સહયોગથી નિર્માણ થયેલા સુપર સ્પેશ્યાલિસ્ટ હોસ્પિટલનું ઉદ્ઘાટન કરશે. વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ શ્રીલંકાના સૌથી જૂના બૌધ્ધ મંદિર- ગંગારામયા માં પૂજા કરી હતી.

ગંગારામયા મંદિર કોલંબોના મશહૂર બેરા ઝીલ પાસે છે. મંદિર પરિસર પર્યટકોમાં ખૂબ જ લોકપ્રિય છે. આ આરાધના સ્થળ હોવાની સાથે જ્ઞાન અને વ્યાવસાયિક પ્રશિક્ષણ કેંદ્ર પણ છે.

India celebrates National Technology Day on May 11

On May 11, 1998, India successfully test fired the Shakti-I nuclear missile at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan   in an operation led by aerospace engineer and late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Two days later, the country successfully tested two more nuclear weapons as a part of the same Pokhran-II/Operation Shakti initiative (Pokhran-I was the 1974 test firing of the ‘Smiling Buddha’ missile).

So the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared India a nuclear state, making it the sixth country to join the ‘nuclear club’ of nations and the first one that was not party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) – an international treaty signed by the US, Russia, the UK, France, and China which aims to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and hopes to achieve nuclear disarmament.

Sthapana diwas of SOMNATH TEMPLE – 11^th may 1951

'Sthapana diwas' (foundation day after reconstruction) of the famous Somnath temple, situated near Veraval in Saurashtra region of Gujarat. 

The first of the 12 'jyotir lingas' temples of Lord Shankar – “Somnath temple”, was reopened after reconstruction on May 11, 1951. 

On May 11, 1951 the temple reconstruction was completed and sacred ceremony of 'linga pratishtha' (idol installation) was performed by the first President of India Rajendra Prasad. 

The Somnath temple, known for its huge wealth, was invaded on several occasions starting from 1024, when the temple was raided by Mahmud Ghazni. It was also attacked by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1706.

ભારતની મહિલા ફાસ્ટ બોલર ઝુલન ગોસ્વામી

ભારતની મહિલા ફાસ્ટ બોલર ઝુલન ગોસ્વામીએ સાઉથ આફ્રિકા સામેની વન ડેમાં ત્રણ વિકેટ ઝડપવાની સાથે આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય વન ડે ક્રિકેટમાં સૌથી વધુ વિકેટ ઝડપવાનો વર્લ્ડ રેકોર્ડ સર્જ્યો હતો. ૩૪ વર્ષીય ઝુલને કારકિર્દીની ૧૫૩મી મેચમાં ૧૮૧મી વિકેટ ઝડપતાં ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયાની કેથરીન ફિટ્ઝપેટ્રિકનો ૧૦ વર્ષ જૂનો વર્લ્ડ રેકોર્ડ તોડી નાંખ્યો હતો. ઝુલનની સિદ્ધિને યાદગાર બનાવતા ભારતે સાઉથ આફ્રિકામાં ચાલી રહેલી ચતુષ્કોણીય વન ડે શ્રેણીમાં યજમાન ટીમ સામે સાત વિકેટથી જીત મેળવી હતી. 

 છેલ્લા ૧૦ વર્ષથી ફિટ્ઝપેટ્રિકનો આ રેકોર્ડ અડીખમ હતો. વર્ષ ૨૦૦૨માં તા. ૬ જાન્યુઆરીએ ઈંગ્લેન્ડ સામેની વન ડેથી આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય કારકિર્દીનો પ્રારંભ કરનારા ઝુલન ૧૦ ટેસ્ટ રમી ચૂકી છે અને તેમાં તેણે ૪૦ વિકેટ ઝડપી છે. જ્યારે ૬૦ ટી-૨૦માં તેના નામે ૫૦ વિકેટ છે. વર્ષ ૨૦૦૬-૦૭માં ઝુલનના વિજયી દેખાવને સહારે ભારતીય મહિલા ક્રિકેટ ટીમે સૌપ્રથમ વખત ઈંગ્લેન્ડની ભૂમિ પર ટેસ્ટ શ્રેણી જીતી હતી. તેને ૨૦૦૭ - વુમન ક્રિકેટર ઓફ ધ યરનો ,૨૦૧૦  - અર્જુન એવોર્ડ અને ૨૦૧૨ - પદ્મશ્રી પુરસ્કાર એનાયત કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો.
